Distance Learning from NITOL - HiST

Exercise: Lesson 1, Introduction

Date: 06.03.97

Getting Started

This exercise does not contain very much theoretical work. Answers should be posted on the newsgroup of the course. Later assignments should be completed in the usual manner, in other words, these should be sent as attachments to e-mail messages.

Presenting Yourself

In the above-mentioned newsgroup, please post a notice about yourself. Mention who you are, where you are working or studying and add a few words about why you are taking this course. Also write a little bit about your experience in running a LAN. In this way, we will get an overview of the "class" -- who everyone is and what kinds of resources each of you will have access to.

Presenting Your Equipment

Find out (if you do not already know) what kind of network you work with (for example, Novell or NT). Tell us about what type of machine your organization uses as its file server and what kinds of machines you have as workstations. Write a little about how big your network is (number of workstations, printers, servers, etc.).

Find relevant links on the Internet which could be useful as an introduction to a course such as this one.

Good luck!
